24-Hour Demand Pattern

The water demand on any given day is not a constant, but fluctuates around the average for the day. Normally in residential areas there is a low demand from midnight to 06:00; then a peak around 07:00 to 08:00 as everybody gets up and has breakfast; then fairly normal water use until 18:00 to 20:00 when dinner is prepared. In industrial areas the water use is normally more regular because of night shift schedules. The 24-hour demand pattern is unique to a type of consumer, and also depends on the size of the water distribution system (larger systems have more regular patterns).
