Daily Fluctuations in Demand

The water demand in a system is not constant, but fluctuates around the annual average demand rate. The peak day in a year may have an average demand rate which is for instance twice the annual average, and the low day in the year may be half or less than half the average demand rate. The magnitude of these fluctuations depends on many factors, among which seasonal changes in weather (more water is used on hot summer days), and system size (small systems have larger fluctuations).
