Layers

An Albion GIS Layer is a data table that is associated with a set of rendering parameters (such as how to colour in the features), as well as other ephemeral data, such as the earth projection of that data (such as Transverse Mercator). The term 'Data Table' is used here in the Database sense of the term, which implies a two dimensional table of columns and rows. The columns are fields in the table, and the rows are the individual records. Most tables that are used in a GIS will have one geometric field, which holds the geometry for that table. The other fields in the table will be generic data fields, usually containing a mixture of text and numbers.
