Water age analysis

First, exit Wadiso 6 (if already open), and then start Wadiso 6 back up again.

Load the model labelled Documents\GLS\Wadiso\Wadiso 6 - Tutorial WQ Start.wlz (for example, from Manage Models > Load Model), and ensure that the circles for your nodes are about 100 m in size. See the steps as performed when we extended the existing system. This model represents an alternative future model to the result from the previous pipe optimization; one that was produced from a tank optimization exercise, falling outside the scope of Wadiso 6.

Open the node table, set the Layout to Time Simulation, and check that the Tsim Output values have been set as equal to the AADD (Demand_Scenario1) values. Also check that for the newly added Node 1000, the Tsim Demand Category1 is set to 1, and the Tsim Output Category1 (%) is set to 100.0. All pipes should have a Tsim Initial Status of OPEN.

Several general time simulation settings must now be set:

Under Simulation Data > Simulation Settings, select from the ensuing Time & WQ Simulation Settings box the Quality tab:

Change the Type to Age. This will allow an analysis of water age in the system, which is to be set as 0 h at the WTP (Tank 1). The initial condition at all nodes is 0.0 by default, but over time, the actual water age will stabilize. Select OK.

Now run the Time Simulation via Analysis > Time Simulation > Run Simulation. Then, right-click on the nodes and tanks listed here below, followed by clicking on Selected Nodes(1), then on T/S Graph Selected Node/Tank, and then on the Quality tab. Notice the following:

For Tank 1 (WTP in the west):

Water age is constant at 0 h, since this is the fresh water source for the system.

For Tank 8 (Balancing tank in the east):

The water age stabilizes at 65 h to 78 h. This is the oldest water in the system. The graph should look as follows:

WAD_Tut_WQ_Tank8_Age_New

For Node 7 (connected by a pipe to the Balancing Tank in the east):

The water age stabilizes, then fluctuates between 5 h to 79 h, depending on whether water is sourced from the WTP or the Tank:
