Pressure Breaker Valve

A pressure breaker valve (PBV) is a link. The setting for a PBV is the amount of pressure that needs to be broken by the valve. The valve will always try to break the set amount of pressure, i.e. maintain the difference between upstream energy level and downstream energy level, in which case it will be ACTIVE. If, for some reason, the specified pressure differential cannot be attained over the valve, the valve will be CLOSED. The operational mode of the PBV (ACTIVE, CLOSED) is indicated in the results viewers. A PBV link has no length associated with it. Although it is not a specific requirement, elevation of the beginning and ending nodes of the PBV link should be the same. Flow direction is from beginning node towards ending node.

For improved mathematical stability of the network solver, the beginning and/or ending nodes of a PBV should not coincide with the beginning or end node of any other special link types, such as check valves, pumps, and flow or pressure control valves.
