Throttle Control Valve

A throttle control valve (TCV) is a link. TCVs simulate a partially closed valve by adjusting the minor head loss coefficient of the valve. A relationship between the degree to which a valve is closed and the resulting head loss coefficient is usually available from the valve manufacturer. The setting for a TCV is the loss coefficient for the valve, in the state of closure that is being modelled. A TCV link has no length associated with it. Although it is not a specific requirement, elevation of the beginning and ending nodes of the TCV link should be the same. Flow direction is from beginning node towards ending node.

For improved mathematical stability of the network solver, the beginning and/or ending nodes of a TCV should not coincide with the beginning or end node of any other special link types, such as check valves, pumps, and flow or pressure control valves.
