A typical tank cost function is shown below. Given such a tank cost function, tank cost is calculated by reading the unit cost for a specific tank size from the graph, multiplying it with the tank size, and adding a fixed amount to the total. This fixed amount in Wadiso is called the "establishment cost", and can for instance be regarded as the cost for a contractor to establish his workforce on the site where the tank is to be constructed. At start-up, the tank cost function shown below exists as a default in the program. The unit cost values of this function are given in the FN1 column of the Tank Cost Functions editor (see later Tank Cost Information). It shows a decrease in unit cost with an increase in tank size, due to the effect of "economy of scale". The user can edit this tank cost function and/or add different tank cost functions. Up to six different tank cost functions can be defined, for instance to distinguish between relatively inexpensive ground storage and expensive elevated storage. Each tank to be sized in the system may be assigned to a specific tank cost function.
