If a combination of pipe sizes causes a tank in the system to discharge water even when the demand rate in the system is lower than the annual average demand rate, it means that the tank would, over a year, discharge more water than it can possibly receive. The tank would therefore show a deficit of water over a period of one year. Such a tank would have to be of infinite size to supply the system with water year after year. The tank is therefore no longer a balancing tank, but rather a "source". Such pipe size combinations are said to be "tank-infeasible" while other (bigger) pipe size combinations, which do allow the tank to fill adequately are said to be "tank-feasible".
