Water demand categories and fluctuations

In the time/WQ simulation data, it is possible to allow a breakdown of the Base Water Demand into up to 5 demand categories, each of which can be associated with a different time pattern. The way in which this is treated in the program is by allowing the user to specify up to 5 percentages, which should (but does not necessarily have to) add up to 100%. This indicates the breakdown of the base demand. With each percentage, a different pattern ID can be associated.

In the simplest formulation, the breakdown could be 100%/Pattern 4, indicating that 100% of the base demand fluctuates in accordance with Time Pattern no. 4. A breakdown of 65%/Pattern 1; 25%/Pattern 7; 10%/Pattern 25 could indicate that 65% of the base demand is residential and follows Time Pattern 1, 25% is business and follows Time Pattern 7, and 10% is industrial and follows Time Pattern 25.

The breakdown %’s and Time Pattern IDs are system-specific time/WQ simulation data, which are associated with each node in the system and saved with the system data. In addition to the base demand and its breakdown/patterns, fire flows can also be specified at nodes.
