Grouping of Pipes

Pipes can be grouped together for optimization via Optimization Data > Optimization Data in Model Tables > Pipe Design Groups (Pipe/CV), which will open the Pipe/CV table and scroll to the relevant field, viz. Optimization Group.

A group number (0 to 10) can be assigned to the Optimization Group field of a pipe. Initially, all pipes are by default assigned to Group 0, which means that they will not be considered for sizing in the optimization. A maximum of 10 groups of pipes can be sized in a single optimization run. There is no limit to the number of pipe assigned to a group. Even a single pipe can form a group on its own. The same pipe number may not appear in more than one group.

At least one group of pipes must be defined in order for optimization to take place. It is allowed to “skip” group numbers, e.g. to only specify pipes in groups 1, 2, 5 and 6, leaving out groups 3 and 4.

Since the "Group editor" is the same table as the Pipe/CV table, it has the same special editing functions, sorting functions, customization possibilities and exporting facilities.

The group number is a property associated with each pipe/CV in the system data. Therefore, the group numbers can also be edited directly in the Pipe/CV table, or in the Link Info box available in the Albion environment, or by the selective editing features available in the Albion environment.

(The group number is considered system specific data, which is saved as part of the system data). It is not saved as part of the optimization specific data.)
