Initial Valve Status

The initial time/WQ simulation status of a valve is entered/edited in the Valve table, which is accessed by selecting Simulation Data > Simulation Data in Model Tables > Initial Status (Valve).

The initial status for valves is data associated with each valve in the system. The above sub-menu option therefore gives access to the regular Valve table, where other system data, such as the diameters and steady state settings of the valves, can and should have been entered already.

When entering the Valve table (as described above), the table automatically scrolls to the “Initial Setting” column. This column needs to be populated by the user, by specifying the initial setting to be used for time simulation. A value of negative one (-1) indicates a closed valve.

A valve’s initial status and its relative settings can be made to vary throughout a time simulation by the use of control statements.

(The initial status of a valve is considered system-specific time/WQ simulation data, which is saved as part of the system data. It is not saved as part of the time/WQ simulation-specific data.

The initial status of a valve is a property associated with each valve in the system data. Therefore, it can also be entered/edited directly in the Valve table, or in the Link Info box (also referred to as the Database box) available in the Albion environment, or by the selective editing features available in the Albion environment.
