A total of five common actions are considered that can be taken every year over a typical twenty year simulation period, in the optimization algorithm to reduce the losses in a water distribution network. They are:
- Replacing meters
- Replacing pipes
- Implementing district metering areas (DMAs)
- Implementing pressure management (PM)
- Implementing active leakage control (ALC)
Each of these actions influence different components of the IWA Water Balance, and ultimately have an effect on the Net Yield, the ratio of Authorised Volume over Produced Volume.
