Optimizing the future system

In this section, an optimization of the future system is to be performed through the following steps:

Extending the existing system

Defining the cost data

Grouping of pipes and assignment of cost data

Defining candidate sizes for groups

Defining the design loads/outputs

Optimization settings and saving data

Running the optimization

Interpreting optimization results

Selecting alternatives

Design Criteria:

For this exercise, PHF demand with minimum pressure requirement of 20 m throughout the system is defined as the first load case. The second load case is defined as the FIRE scenario, with 15 m throughout the system.

Both load cases will be considered while the pump is running, and the level in Tank 8 is 5 m.

At this stage, no consideration of pump cost, or tank cost, will be made. Only pipe sizing is evaluated.
